New York's Shadow Transit. Great article about the "dollar vans" by The Newyorker

That’s the shit that just makes it a really hard sell for me. I’ve lived here a while, I know dollar vans exist, I’m not naive about them and I’ve certainly taken more unorthodox modes of transit in travels to other parts of the world.

But I don’t particularly love the idea of a trip that may get stopped and hassled by the cops at any point in time, out of some performative sense that I’m just a boring white dude if I have never taken a dollar van.

Nothing at all against the people providing or using the service. But sometimes it feels like these conversations (especially in here on reddit) are all posturing about who tolerates the worst out of necessity.

I’ve never taken a dollar van, I probably never will, and that’s probably okay.
