Nobody Wants to Work Anymore

I wish colleges were better about informing students about the process of getting a job, and what factors are actually important, like networking. I didn't have much guidance, neither of my parents went to college plus the economy was much different during their time (houses were actually affordable back then etc). I got a Biology degree thinking "oh a STEM major should serve me well." Man was I wrong, you really need a doctorate to get a decent position in STEM fields, and there just aren't a ton of science jobs especially anyways. I ended up leaving my marine conservation research position for an IT job that paid way more and I got that job bc I knew someone who worked at the company. If I had had just slightly better guidance from my student advisor I would've gone into programming or something or at least not banked so much on STEM = good...
