Are you guys consciously trying to move into more of a discussion style group with effort posts, and away from a more relaxed point and laugh style mockery sub?

I can’t speak for the other mods, but I still want this to be plenty of point and laugh mockery. it helps disarm the times when GG thinks militaristic rhetoric and repurposed WW2 propaganda is supposed to be scary.

but I think we need to tone down some of our hate, because there are times when we’re turning it inwards or applying SWAT-attempt levels of hate to some KiA commenter making a dumb, edgy joke.

I guess, I want it to be a mixture. plenty of pointing and laughing, but with class and dignity and occasionally we have serious discussions about stuff like we have been for awhile.

so like, I’ve not liked the sea lions thing since the beginning because it’s so commonly just comments that are nothing more than “ort ort ort” that aren’t even funny and seem exactly like what you’d expect from KiA. we’re wittier than that, we can do better and make fun of the trope where gaters butt in everywhere without that crutch.

the “it’s all about ethics” thing I actually think is still funny, and in fact took a picture of a moment in SMT IV that I want to use for that joke. I personally don’t have a problem that those jokes, because they so often do point out the absurdity of the situation and don’t resort to dehumanizing gamergate in a way that makes them seem like they are victims or lack control over their actions.

and, again, this is somewhat of a rough draft. I expect this to evolve over time based on how the community reacts.

the key here is I want positivity in the community and plenty of funny, but the funny should still reflect the reality that gamergate is made up of plenty of human adults that are choosing to be part of gamergate. the absurdity of that sentence itself is enough to build off of without needing to rely on calling them “a pile of trash” or “shit on a dick”.
