OOP lets his brother crash at his at the start of the pandemic. OOP's brother then decides to "evict" him. Medieval-themed chaos ensues.

Huzzah! Something I can answer!

Right so let’s start off at what gives police their powers. Usually it’s a set of laws (an act)that dictate the powers that Police can use, why and when they can use them. Police operate in criminal matters which means for them to conduct themselves there needs to be an offence or reasonable grounds or reasonably suspects that and offence is going to occur.

So with tenancy and civil matters like these, there are no laws in the police act to give them the power to involve themselves. If they did involve themselves the police can and will be charged like any other person if they say attempted to arrest someone. Or forced them out of the house. It become assault then. Also throw in the civil contracts and all that it’s a huge grey area about rights and agreements. Things that police aren’t at all trained to deal with, that’s for the legal powers higher to decide.

Domestic violence is where it blends the two and that’s where it gets messy.

Hope that helps!
