I’m an Aussie who travelled around the country with backpackers for a year. No way would I do those terrible jobs. Your boss is 8 times out of 10 a sexist, racist, homophobic, creepy bogan.

They have an old school, hard-arse attitude and threaten to fire staff when called out for poor working conditions or creepy behaviour. It’s disgusting what some of my friends had to do just for a few dollars. Aside from having most of their wage taken to pay for their on site accomodation or working for a flea infested bunk bed. They were willing because it allowed them to stay in the country, but the stories I heard and the things I saw.... just embarrassing.

I’ll never forget the day where two French girls had to clean a man’s bedroom, which had porn on display, used condoms in the bin and this man invited them to perform oral sex on him for $50 each. “Nah, just kidding, just kidding. Can’t cha take a joke. Geez you frenchies are uptight. Faarrrk. This is why men are so sick of woman. Can’t even take a fucken joke” was what he said when these poor 18 year old girls questioned him.

Being an Australian male all these kinds of guys assumed I was one of them, so they’d tell me everything. I can act real bogan when needed, so I just let them have a yarn and hear all their unfiltered bullshit.

These owners and farmers need a day course on how to treat employees in the modern world. More importantly, how not to sexually harass young woman.

Not all were like this, some were incredible humans and tip top people, but majority were creepy old men, who were out of touch with the world and just didn’t know how to deal with non country folk, or just saw them as free labour.

If Australians were working for them, many would be screwed.
