People who have been to clothing-optional beaches, what was your experience like?

I've said this before:

Being nude at a nude beach is one of the most liberating experiences to have. Nudity is an EQUALIZER; I can't state this enough. There are all sizes and shapes at a nude beach and honestly, it is just like being at a "clothed" beach except there are no clothes. It really isn't a big deal, its just that most Americans equate nudity to sex. But that isn't the case. All the same rules apply as they would at a "clothed" beach. And yes, erections are frowned upon but these things can happen so if so, just cover up or go in the water and let the moment pass.

The first time I went to a nude beach in November 2014, I was pretty nervous about getting aroused. But honestly, I just stripped down and there was no turning back. You see everyone for just their bodies and each of our bodies are different and have flaws. Plus, while it is possible that some of the patrons at a nude beach could be "beautiful people", it is more likely that they are just like you and me: average folks who just enjoy being nude. The feeling of coming out of the ocean with nothing on and feeling the water and wind on your body seems so primal and fundamental. I'm not denying that there are some folks who might be there for the wrong reasons: perhaps to "perv" or perhaps they tend to be more exhibitionist than most folks but for the most part, being at a nude beach or around another nudists isn't a "sexually charged" environment.

My tips: more sunscreen than you think you need, especially in places where the sun hasn't ever been shined on, plenty of water, chairs, multiple towels (nudists always carry a small towel with them to sit on), a cooler with beer/food, and whatever you would normally bring to the beach.

Some resources on nudism which might be helpful:

There is a list of socially allowed nude places for North America on wikipedia if you google it (I think my original comment was deleted b/c I linked to external resources, otherwise I would provide a link for it.)

You should definitely post up your experience on reddit.com/r/nudism/ ! We're always welcoming first timers.
