was in oakland and decided to walk back from grand lake area to macarthur bart station area since it was a nice morning and needed to settle brunch. I decided to walk "over" to telegraph and up and lost my direction a bit. went in a store to get a drink and realized I was not where I thought I was.

I decided I'd walk up to macarthur to get the bus and got stopped about half way up by 3 mexican kids that weren't older than 15. they circled me stopping me, asked me what block I was from and if I was a cop... I said I was just trying to get home and I had nothing they were after. that's when the kid pulled his pistol. I put my hands up got pushed into a car port by his 2 friends and they started jacking me and punching me asking me questions. they got all $4 in cash I had, a used up pre paid credit card, my ID (which oakland pd actually found a couple years after), my leather belt and my old stinky new balance shoes. the 2 "friends" ran off with my shit leaving myself and the kid with the pistol. I started laughing at the situation since he couldn't believe I wasn't walking around with more cash or even a phone. I told him just to go and I wouldn't even call the cops. he backed away from me then turned around and bolted... but he got clipped about halfway down the block by a car flipping through the air and dropped his gun. he never picked it up and kept running. I ran to where the pistol was, picked it up and someone saw the lady hit the kid and called the cops who showed up about 35 mins later to help.

the gun had 4 hollow point 9mm rounds in it and they said the same group had robbed and shot a guy in the legs the night before so I was pretty lucky. I can laugh at it now but it pissed me off for years... it was like noon on a sunday on a perfectly clear day. not exactly when you expect to get mugged
