People who have played d&d and other similar ttRPGs, what is your experience with it, what did you think of the game?

Good or not there's just something very bothersome to me about this entire fantasy game, that's insanely popular even among adults, that provides escapism centered around violence. Maybe I'm just getting old or something.

The whole mechanic is slanted towards violence. Your character can have this skill to be a master of woodworker. One day you feel like solving one of the issues that the DM puts in front of you like your the master engineer in Caesar's century by building a bridge across the Rhine. Roll one d20, pass the dc, okay you built the bridge.

I enjoyed the game because I like the idea of improvised storytelling. I think that's really cool. But all of the magic in the game kind of kills all the potential for storytelling that's interesting especially since it seems like all people want to do is just fight.
