Phil Spencer: Xbox E3 Show Will Be 90 Minutes

everything you said basically is not utilized yet...

But there's literally no reason why they haven't except for the fact that they can't be utilized in the ways MS had anticipated. The idea of using the Cloud to add processing power has yet to come to pass.

When developers are actually capable of doing that, then I may retract some of my statements... But it's looking less and less likely.

and that's because Microsoft built their console for the future.

No, they didn't. Neither did Sony. If they were built for the future, they'd be way more powerful - and/or - they would have been built in a way that would allow for substantial hardware 'updates'. The whole 'future' talk was just Microsoft PR trying to push the 'Always Online' thing. But unfortunately, they were completely incapable of convincing the public that their initial ideas were good - and so they abandoned them.

If the Xbox ONE was built for the future, it'd be way ahead of the game.

They new about all the other things they had going on in hush while making it.

And yet, have still been unable to show off or release anything that demonstrates it's own awesomeness...

They knew about windows 10, they knew about Hololens and probably still unannounced things.

Sure... But neither of those things have been implemented into the Xbox ONE - yet.

Instead of taking the route Sony took and just upgrading the PS3 to being more powerful

You mean they focused on delivering a gaming console - and not some ill-fated attempt to replace our cable box? I mean, really... What does the Xbox ONE offer that truly replaces any other thing you used prior to owning your Xbox ONE... And are those things not readily available on the PS4?

Microsoft went ahead and gave us a product that has a lot of potential and as a consumer that's what gets me super excited.

What good is potential if it's never - even after 2 years - actually realized? Also, what potential do you see? Where do you honestly see the Xbox ONE 2 years from now? How will it be different?

Microsoft is a technologies company.

I find this too be it's biggest crutch. It's a technologies company that has too many irons in the fire. They insist on tying all of their things together... Only instead of creating this single experience in which all these things work and communicate and play well with each other... They force a UI that was built with a touch-screen in mind across all platforms - the apps don't actually communicate well with each other - I mean, it has taken up to 2 days for an achievement to actually appear in my achievements app after unlocking (while online).

Sony is also a technologies company, by the way... And instead of introducing something that never really took off (the Kinect) - and then doubling-down on it by forcing their early adopters to buy the Kinect 2.0 - only to then abandon it... They held off and are actively developing and researching their own VR head set that will utilize the PS4.

Always innovating and working on new things.

But they hardly innovate. MS is the worst offender of introducing things - only to abandon them - and then to appeal to their competition's consumers - they implement half-assed versions of what their competition offers. Kinect = their failed attempt to cash-in on the motion-control fad. Games with Gold = is an inferior (in every way) answer to Sony's IGC. I mean, how long did it take for MS to remove their pay wall for streaming services their costumers already pay a subscription fee for?

Now they're trying to take us into the future with Xbox one.

What future? Paint me a word picture of this Utopia future in which Xbox ONE is king and has innovated the world of video games. I sincerely want to hear it.

Xbox will still get all the same necessary games as ps4 but the capabilities outside of just gaming are what make Xbox one special

'Necessary' games? I guess cross platform are the only necessary ones? I guess Indie games are, by default, excluded (since it's clear MS is not going after Indies the same way Sony is).

As for outside of gaming potential - again, I'd like to hear your thoughts on your expectations that couldn't easily be answered by Sony in a basic system update (i.e. one that would not require Sony to release any sort of additional hardware to implement).
