This pretty much sums me up on weekends

This literally happened yesterday at my work. I was leaving from the morning shift, and my coworker coming in the restaurant pointed out there was a big German Sheppard locked in a Jeep just outside the restaurant. It was about 28 Celsius yesterday, with a humidex making it feel like 35. (southern Ontario), and one window was cracked about 2-3 inches, all other windows were up.

So, my boss makes an announcement to all our customers asking whoever had the dog to go out and bring the dog out of the vehicle, we would provide water for the dog, we just refuse to allow people to lock their dogs in the parking lot. Well, no one claims the dog/car so we wait about 10 more minutes and call the police. During this time we take a little plastic container of water out to the car, and one of our coworkers slips the water inside the cracked window and the dog happily drinks it up. About 20-30 minutes later the police car shows up, he pulls around the vehicle than pulls up to me/my boss who were waiting outside.

Cop tells us one window is cracked and the dog isn't visibly in distress, he can't do anything, even though he disagrees with treating animals like that, it's not animal abuse to leave a dog in a 35 degree + car as long as you leave a single window cracked, assuming the dog is able to look around.

That's it. Nothing we can legally do in Ontario unless the dog is already passed out. We should have just poured water through the window onto the fuck tards seat. My boss and I were fuming. Just typing this up I am furious, it was ridiculously hot yesterday to outside, let alone inside a car.

Apparently the SPCA takes it more serious than police so we will call them when it happens again. Unfortunately it happens pretty regularly in our parking lot (2-4 times a summer) but usually the people just let the dog out when we make an announcement.
