I grew up in the North and South Carolina and Georgia punk scenes, and I want to add to the conversation that I agree there are lovely punks out there like this fellow, but I have travelled the world and Carolina punks are the biggest childish douchebags of any punks I ever associated with. They are fashion punks. There is zero social justice elements going on in the Charlotte and Augusta area scenes I spent my time in. They're bums still sponging off mommy and daddy well into their thirties now, and also heavily into heroin and other crap. In fact, Rancid didn't even play when they came to Augusta when we were kids, because some of my dickbags friends set a car on fire in the venue parking lot so the show got shut down and everyone kicked out before it even stared.

Also, lots of knife fights, fist fights, raping passed out gals at house parties, thinking how cool it is to not shower for months at a time... Also, a punk I grew up with got my niece hooked on heroin and let her overdose and die and lied about it.

It's like, when punk gets introduced to poor white trash kids, it becomes a way to vent the frustrations of growing up in an economically depressed area, and they misinterpret punk as a way to be an asshole instead of the social justice stuff. So I have a little empathy and insight on why the douchebaggery is so heavy in poor rural Southern scenes, but goddamn Carolina and Georgia punks misinterpret the fuck out of the movement.

I am glad people are pointing out the good punks they know, I'm pretty jaded by the ones I grew up with.
