More like they are realizing how fucked they are right now. They are running out of supplies : fuel, ammo, and food. Vehicles stuck in the mud, artillary out of range etc. Their logistical situation is a nightmare, add the weather conditions and it's just one big quagmire. Extremely poor logistical and tactical planning on every level imaginable.

Then they have young, inexperienced, conscripted soldiers who are shitting themselves....many are giving up and deserting their posts and equipment. At this point , Russia is barely making any significant advances as a ground force.

They do seem to have a knack for killing innocent civilians and destroying the infrastructure. That fact, alone, will strengthen the resolve of the Ukrainian forces.
