Sanders talks income inequality in front of overflow crowd in Salem

Well, we're not really doing well either. And I wasn't writing that because I wanted to take a stab at you.

The muslim immigration thing is out of this world because we, for the life of us, can't get together as a band of nations and form a common immigration policy. Currently, if you're a refugee going to Europe from somewhere else, you have to seek asylum in the first country that you put your feet into. If you're a father and your wife and kids are in Germany and you landed in Spain, you have to stay there. We are splitting families. We have children that can't live with their parents. What we need is to have the immigration policy moved away from the independent countries and introduce a unified legislation that allows immigrating families to come together. We also need to do that, so we can stay on top of the whole situation. Nobody is taking the lead here.

The Eurozone thing is out of this world too since countries cannot, individually, adjust the value of the Euro to match their individual needs. There are two ways about this: Either abandoning the Euro or joining fiscal policy and the currency policy under the EU. Currently, if Germany is in need of devaluating the Euro, then it also has to be devaluated in every country within the Eurozone. This is problematic, because not every country in the Eurozone is in need of the same amount of devaluation. It leads to lower purchasing power in poorer countries.

The general problem here, is that the people don't really have any influence on the policy that the EU leads. We aren't unified, like the United States are. We can't have somebody stand up and speak to Europe as a whole. The crumbling of the Euro and the immigration thing is also making people scared of the EU. It seems like a faceless institution trying to take away the individual countries sovereignty - which is true and that's of course a hard sell. But, frankly, it's what we need. Anything else would be a step backwards. We are also in a state of limbo. We are somewhere inbetween a United States of Europe and just another continent with a bunch of countries - which is worse than anything of the two because it's a roadblock for progess in any direction.
