Seen at the March for Science

Your president just doesn't care. Neither does my prime minister, who was also targeted as an "Audience" for the #MarchForScience.

People need to stop pretending that this is anything more than a thinly veiled anti-Trump protest because Trump doesn't care. There is absolutely no way that people will get to the end of all this, and have Trump go "Oh alright, you got me, I believe in climate change now."

What the purpose of this whole sentiment SHOULD have been, was to generate an atmosphere in greater society whereby people see that there's a huge interest in science and the truth over speculation. People might argue that's what a protest march is, however it's a very poor way of doing it because it only really validates people who already agree and don't need more validation, and it's so incredibly easy for the whole thing to be swept under the rug.

What people, and these figures organising the march, should be doing is making an effort to make science a more valuable aspect of society and culture. Generating an organised interest to utilise the utilities such as libraries, museums, and historical monuments. Set up websites for example, with the purpose of helping people understand who to support in government and how, how to properly contact the right people, etc. Keeping track of politicians records and promises. Fund and assist in organisations to engage kids in education and make their education more worthwhile to everybody in society. And seeing which media organisations was upholding the mantle of the Fourth Estate wouldn't be such a bad idea either.

I get that not everyone can just go out and do all this, however social changes weren't built on what the minority couldn't do, and the least everyone else could do is utilise these things. There needs to be an effort to keep science valued and relevant in society. Patting people on the back for already understanding Climate Change is a thing in a bite-sized protest so that Trump can just easily forget about it all won't do anything. People need to generate the social change they want to see in society, and a poorly directed protest towards someone who just doesn't give a damn over the people who would like to, is a wasted effort.
