Should I go back to school and get a degree that’s practical money-wise or should I go for what I have interest in and enjoy?

Ok, so I majored in whatever ridiculous things struck my fancy. I have a degree in studio art (yup, that's a thing) with a minor in ethics (because why the fuck not), as well as way more classes than I ever needed in French and American Sign Language/Deaf culture (yeah, I dont know either). And I'm so fucking lucky to be actually using my major doing work that I like. And i mean lucky in the sense of it was unlikely to happen.

But even being, like, best case scenario, I would strongly advise against studying what you love. Study something that is interesting, and that will lead to a job you'd like to do, and an income you're comfortable with. But don't study something you love. The second it's not for your enjoyment - because its for a grade or a paycheck or a client or a deadline or a project - you aren't going to love it anymore. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my job as much as a job can be enjoyed, but its still a job. Its still work. Id still rather be doing something else a lot of the time. And what's worse is you lose a hobby. I used to do art for fun and to relax. It was the thing I looked forward to. I had to find a new hobby. And then that became the thing I looked forward to doing, the thing I would rather be doing.

So, find something you will enjoy, something that will hold your interest. But not the thing you really love.
