You should find a shorter commute

So that's $6,000 per year that you might as well just take out of your salary. Ouch.

Plus you gotta do the math on what you're really making per hour when you factor in the commute. So if it's an hour on both ends and you're getting $20/hr 8 hours per day, you're effectively getting $16/hr if you figure it's really a 10 hour day.

Not to mention just how much every hour squeezes in to your precious home time. If you're working 8 hours a day + taking an hour lunch + 2 hours to commute you're spending 11 hours per day on the whole work thing. Assuming you manage to sleep a healthy 8 hours (lol), that leaves you with 5 hours of personal time at home. Your commute just ate 29% of that.

I never thought much about this shit until I took a job with a 5 minute "commute" and a paid lunch. It was fucking life changing.
