Supreme Court of Canada strikes down ban on doctor-assisted suicide

My grandpa got a cocktail from his doctor. He was suffering from lungcancer and had no future without pain in front of him. My mother was burdened with the job to basicly ask his doctor to kill her father. The process of euthanasia is long and there a lot of rules involved. My grandpa had to be examined by two other doctors and they had to agree with his decision to die basically. See if his body was really broken or that he could go an extra few miles. If he wasnt just depressed.

He left behind his wife, who had Alzheimers. He couldnt even have a proper goodbye with the woman he was married with for over 50 years. I cant even begin to fathom his pain.

Since my grandma had Alzheimers, she no longer qualified for euthanasia. I honestly couldnt tell you which laws prevented it, but it came down to the fact she didnt have the clarity of mind (obviously) to make such a decision. Her three children werent allowed to make that call for her. On her deathbed they 'helped' her. She probably had cancer too, but was unable to tell others how much pain she had. I think everyone would have wanted to safe her this agony. She died about six months after her husband.

I wasnt there when they died. My mother was and she was impressed, for lack of a better word. Making sure that if she was ever in such a position, she would make the same decision. One syringe, one IV and 10 seconds to end all suffering.

I get pretty upset when i see American politicians make light of our Dutch euthanasia policy. Some even claiming we haphazardly kill people in our elderly homes because we need the space. Fucking retarded. Like this motherfucking asshole for example;

I really dont want to end a story that starts with the my dead grandparents with this, but look at the motherfucking bullshit Fox is pulling here;

Can someone tell me what exactly is wrong anything they mention in this video? This was aired over 10 years ago. More than ten years ago we already took for granted what still rustles Reddits jimmies. I know FOX news is the very last thing that should represent America, but come on. This is just terrible.

Oh well, breathe in, breathe out. Im going to pour myself a whisky and drink to my grandparents. I hope that when i need to seek help ending my life its still possible. Else i will just have my kids roll me off a high roof in my wheelchair.

EDIT: A small footnote, polygamy isnt legal here. The rest he says is pretty much spot on. Still no suicide pill, but the option to terminate life without a terminal illness is still on the table.
