Swinney's epic rant on media using "Clemsoning"

No the clemsoning term was all media, what the Clemson fans used was "pulling a clemson". There's a difference.

Clemsoning started being used about 2012 when we lost to NC State and GT... Later on the term Clemsoning continued to be used by the media in instances such as losing to FSU and South Carolina, while clemson fans, at least the ones that have been a fan for any amount of time didn't use those words because they knew that wasn't even the correct meaning. When we lost to FSU and Scar we were usually underdogs. Clemsoning or pulling a Clemson was supposed to mean underperforming and losing games we shouldn't. The phrase pulling a clemson has been around since the Bowden years, I know at least as far back as 2004 when we beat Miami and lost to Duke the following week. I think most Clemson fans realize there has been a massive change since the Bowden years. It's not even fair to apply the word to the teams since Dabo has been here. Even our terrible 6-7 year he wasn't Clemsoning because that implies we would've been heavy favorites in all those games, which we weren't. It also doesn't JUST mean underperforming. All teams underperform occasionally. It is supposed to mean over performing or winning games we aren't supposed to and THEN losing games we shouldn't. I have lived in Clemson since 2003 and I heard people saying pulling a clemson all the time under Bowden and never heard anyone use the term Clemsoning until the media started propagating it. Sure it originated from the same meaning but Clemsoning has been used incorrectly ever since its inception. It's also not fair to blame fans for it because commentator usage is what caused it to explode in popularity, regardless of the origins of the term
