Taxi drivers snarl up Brussels in anti-Uber protest. Belgian deputy PM says "Improve customer experience. Invest in technology. Innovate the business. All things the taxi sector could do instead of strike"

Stupid. Is all striking denying customers a service? No.

People saying they should innovate please offer a single plausible idea before you spout shit.

I can't speak for everyone in the world but I own my own business and have been through the same shit. I had a local shop 5 minutes from where I live and was born. One day some rich foreigners move in two doors down offering the exact same things as me but for slightly cheaper/same price. They could have literally opened any sort of business they wanted but chose to step on my toes. I never did that. I never sold sandwiches, super glue, pizzas or alcohol because that would hurt the other 4 businesses on the block, which would weaken the community. I could have, and it would have been 'innovative' and 'better customer experience'. But no, they want those things go pay 10p fucking extra next door it wont kill you and it'll keep people in the job.

I actually went door-to-door and got 2000 people to sign a petition against the market saturation of our community. The response I got from the council was akin to 'It's your own fault for not pulling more customers out of thin air'. I didn't have the money to compete, to do up my shop to win the war of aesthetics. Eventually I gave up and sold up. No more letting hurried mums pay for their milk later, or charging that raggedy looking guy a bit less for his cigarettes. No more giving change to the kids waiting for the bus or shelter and a free binbag to cover their shopping to people looking to get out of the rain.

Why anyone can argue against regulation I don't know. By that logic we shouldn't regulate people either. If we're not going to do our best to create the best environment we can so as many businesses as possible can thrive by using a little bit of fucking common sense then why the hell do we do it anywhere? Why have any laws at all that regulate people if businesses can do whatever the fuck they want?
