Those bloody climate refugees

There is a lot to unpack, and yes, climate change is definitely a factor.

Population: According to the World Bank, India's population was 450 Million in 1960 and is now 1.3 billion. 'nuff said.

Water: The reason why many rivers, this includes major rivers in the US and Europe, have lower levels today than they had decades ago is more closely connected to irrigation efforts (most of which are horribly ineffective and new, water-preserving ways are only slowly gaining traction), fresh water usage for industry, hydroelectricity and plain old inefficiencies in water delivery systems. If more than 50% of fresh water disappears between the source and the consumers in the cities, then something is really going wrong. Check out what's going on in Israel and Spain.

Rich countries, poor countries: India has a middle class the size of the whole European union. I would love to compare those numbers instead of India vs. Luxembourg or so. And for some reason the Indian government finds it more entertaining to be a nuclear power and shoot shit into space than to help the poor.

Weather: Yes, this is probably climate change. The destabilization of weather patterns is a predicted effect of warming and especially dangerous for India and South-East-Asia, since the "normal" state of land so close to the equator is "dry as a dust bowl".

In the end, the Global North has the ball in their court.

Absolutely, but as it turns out: we don't have a fucking clue either and all we know brought on this disaster. Not just in terms of climate change, but we were the pusher of oil, industrial agriculture and medical development, that enabled a lot of what's going wrong.

I do not have a solution for migration caused by climate change, which is definitely different than the migration due to economic issues (and that's were the "racism" against migration often originates) and the refugees sent on their way by superpowers insisting on igniting conflicts in unsuspecting countries for no good reason.

However, I also see the negative effects of migration and I am pretty sure that once the Global North destabilizes, the Global South will simply implode.

So, once again, it's the name of this sub.
