The time Andy Samberg nailed the 'women in comedy' discussion

I mean, I know you're not serious (at least I hope you're not) because obviously that would be impossible to source. I'm sure there are misogynistic people in the industry - just as there are misandrists, racists and homophobes in any industry as well.

But that wasn't even my point, and I didn't say there were no misoginists in the scene. You took what I said and responded to it how you wanted to hear it.

My point about numbers has three main points:

Firstly, many more men pursue it as a lifelong career, therefore there are more male comics in the scene than women - this is fact.

Secondly, many of the top guys have been honing their skills since the '80s - with years of work comes experience, exposure and money. How many women from the '80s are still in the scene? Sarah Silverman, Janeane Garofalo ... I'm sure there's a couple more, but I can't think of any.

Lastly, most people enjoy male comics more - including women. It's the same principle as the WNBA - it's not that people dislike it because they are women, it's because it's boring as fuck. My sister is a lawyer for children's and women's rights, and guess what? She loves Bill Burr because the dude is funny. She doesn't want to hear another cliched 'I did a sex and have a vagina' joke from some hack just because she's a woman.

If anything, nowadays women are being coddled by the industry. Fellow male comics feel they can't critique a woman as they would a man out of fear of being called a misogynist. Many don't develop a thick skin which is normally very much needed in the industry. For fuck's sake, Doug Stanhope made some silly joke on Twitter regarding Amy Schumer recently. She DMd him saying her feelings were hurt and asked if he really meant it.

As I said, there are funny women in comedy right now, but unfortunately the good ones aren't getting gigs like that hack. Check out Ms. Pat, Christina Pazsitzky or Esther Ku.

I hope this clarifies what I meant.

Have a good one.
