Tithing clarification

I always saw it as paying on your income BEFORE your basic needs... I don't pay based on pre-taxed levels though. I base on what gets deposited into my bank account.

If I based it on after my basic needs I mean, it's just so insanely ambiguous. What are "basic" needs? For a wealthy person who has never had to live on very little their definition of "basic needs" could mean so much more. Do I get to buy a bigger house now and have a larger mortgage? Where do you draw the line?

Because it is too ambiguous, the church basically only can say it's between you and God, but I would say that with exception to very few edge case fringe examples, what is reasonable should probably be paying tithing on your increase. Not your money left over after paying bills.
