Trump reportedly derailed a meeting with G7 leaders when he insisted Russia should be readmitted to the group, and everyone slapped him down

This is often repeated, but mostly misses the mark.

Orwell added, people are controlled by inflicting pain

Not really. Winston, yes. But that's because he made his way to terrorist status and was sitting in the 1984 equivalent of Guantanamo Bay.

Everyone else is controlled through thought control, which manifests in the language Newspeak and ideas such as doublethink and crimethink (thought crime).

Doublethink should be familiar to us all now. The idea that Trump is an everyman, yet lives in his own Manhattan skyscraper. Or the idea that some foreign power or enemy (China, for example) is simultaneously strong yet weak.

Orwell spent much of 1984 discussing language, and Neil Postman really just glosses over it despite the fact that Orwell's ideas regarding thought control surround us. His ideas are on Fox News, daily. Fox News is basically just an all-day version of "Two Minutes of Hate". The corporate media would love for you to forget who is really pulling the strings. So they pull a boogeyman out and scare the shit out of viewers, daily. Just so you might not have any independent thoughts going around in your head.
