Hey, thanks for your feedback it is honestly appropriated. I agree with you that selfies are not the best way to show yourself. Unfortunately due to practical limitations selfies are the only option atm. That might change in the near future though :)

What do you start convo with?

I haven't started many convos because I get very few matches. Many of the matches I do get don't have a bio at all so I usually start with a friendly hello and ask a close ended question. For example: what is your take on pineapple on pizza? For people who do have a profile, I give a friendly hello, give a genuine compliment about something the girl had a choice in, and ask them a simple to answer close ended question. For example: "Hey, that's a really cute cat you have there. What's its name?"
