Just FYI, try to find someone with a suppressed pistol. It isn't 'hollywood' quiet, and most/all will still be around 100-120 decibels. I was dead set on buying in, until I got to use a friends various setup (multiple silencers in multiple calibers). I ended up just going 'eh'.

You'll also need to make sure that your suppressed pistol will cycle correctly, and see if the suppressor will make it fling a ton of fucking shit into your face (same friend had a can/pistol setup I refused to fire after the 3rd time because it was like getting sprayed with gravel). Suppressors change the pressure in the gun (oversimplification) and can make a gun do funky things (not dangerous, but failure to feed/eject/etc. type things).

For home defense I like the idea of ARs (I can't say 'I am a fan of...' because I've never had to use anything). Take a look at the response to this post. A suppressed AR carbine will be surprisingly small, by you'll get to control it with two hands.
