So it was freshman year, senior survivor. And this is a week long event towards the end of the school year where senior sell goods to the other students during school (typically food) and they donate their profit to a charity of their choice. Well, this one group was selling goldfish, actual live goldfish. And I was like cool, and saw a few of my friends carrying their new fish around. But keep in mind that this was the beginning of the day, and they completely sold out, so now about 100 high school students with various levels of common sense were taking goldfish in plastic bags around for the entire school day. So, it’s a few classes into the day when I hear that the principal had shut down the goldfish sale and I just assumed that it was because they were being sold without a license. BUT NO. SOME GENIUS SWALLOWED A LIVE GOLDFISH FOR 5 BUCKS. So then, it becomes a thing where at least 5 kids have eaten their goldfish. But my friend still wanted a fish so she went on Snapchat and secretly hunted down a kid who would sell her his fish. And that’s the story of how our high school had a black market for goldfish for a day.
