What website did you used to frequent, but do not anymore?

This reminds me of my first mother-in-law. Don't worry, 19 years later and we'd still be cordial if we were to meet. Anyway...

She was a Tournament director for Canasta and Euchre and another one, but i can't remember. She would have multiple windows open (tabs didn't exist - remember that shit?!) with games, chat windows, and back-door sites opened in minimized windows so she could brute force her way into lobbies and games that were full. She got to be a master.

Well, one day, she had gone grocery shopping with her daughters and it was just me and the soon-to-be father-in-law hanging out. He would often use the puter to play Soldier of Fortune during the morning hours before he had to go to work at 2pm, allowing his wife to sit on the thing until she went to bed. (She did other stuff, too, while running the tournaments). But on this day, he and i both had the day off. He played SoF for a bit, while i cooked breakfast.

Then he asked me a question.

"Hey, what's that website Ma [they called each other ma and pa] goes to for those games, again?"

"Pogo", i replied.

Click. Click. Click. Backspace click. Click. Click.

Time passes. "It just says 404: File not found..."

"You need to put "www.", then type ".com" after the pogo part, dude."

"Oh yeah - duh!", he said with a slap to the forehead.

More clicking. More time.

Then, "It won't let me in to Euchre. Mutherfuck!", he snarled.

i raised an eyebrow: "Lemme see it", i said. Sure enough, the lobby and the game tables were all full.

While i was working on it, he said, "Hold on...isn't there a way Ma gets into full games for her tournaments?"

"Yep! She goes to another site and it allows her to sign-in to pogo and force her way into the desired table indirectly."

Just then, the food i was cooking needed attending, so he takes back over.

"Doesn't she have a "Favorite" [pre bookmarks] or a shortcut to it here somewhere??", he blurted out impatiently.

i filled our plates with breakfast (bacon) and we let it go for a bit.

Now, remember, there were no cellphones to allow us to just ask her for help. Plus, she would get a little tweaked whenever someone would go to pogo, afraid they'd play while still signed-in as her or mess something up with the computer and she'd be screwed, so it was best to just leave her out of the equation, anyway.

He got back on and tried again.

"What's the name of the page i need?" We tried a few things, based on snippets of relevant info we strained to remember her saying.

Finally, frustrated with all this, he threw his hands up. "Fuck it! I give up." Desperate, i said, "Well, the site is called a backdoor, so why don't we try that?"

i'll never forget the look on his face after the page loaded.
