Our ego can be a positive thing if managed correctly and probably led to our high survival rate as we prioritized our own survival (importance) above all else. However when it gets out of hand one of the end results is religion. We are so special and important that everything was created for us and our consumption. That we alone have special powers to transcend death and go to live forever. There is no evidence for any of this, yet it is a nice pipe dream and appeals to the ego so it is believed. Christianity likes to say it is humble and modest, when it is anything but when you look at the root concepts and requirements of the doctrine.

We are nothing different than any lifeform and I think that should be a plus. Its one of the reasons I want to be a vegeterian. At any chance, we could have been born a pig or been born human.

All life exists to outlive and survive longer than anything else. At the core that is how it works. Evolution occurs because something was able to survive better than something else, if not then it loses and becomes subsistence for a more successful organism. Nature and life is a brutal competition that does not have concepts like justice, mercy, and fairness. I will probably catch flack for this but it is one of the reasons I dont have a problem with eating meat. In fact I plan to raise my own livestock for consumption, it doesn't bother me. If they were in the wild they would be prey for something else, its the cycle of life, the food chain, everything is food for something else, we are no exception. I am merely participating in that cycle as a player, just like all other lifeforms. Now because we have evolved higher cognitive functions we ascribe additional layers onto things as we can empathize with other life, so I will be treating my food humanly and make sure they have a good life before their end. However if I am completely honest it's not just to make me feel fuzzy for doing the "right" thing, but because it also produces higher quality subsistence.

We have the most efficient tool for survival, so why not use it?
