What's something that is unnecessarily expensive?

For example, I live in Canada, the second largest landmass in the world, with vast vast swathes of all manner of resources needed for housing construction, all collectively "owned" (in theory) by all Canadians. We also are in desperate need of housing and have tons of un-underemployed people who need housing...(People like myself.)

Canada could (and should utilize those lands and resources, and organize groups of people to (gasp) work towards building the housing that they themselves need...

Instead our corrupt government and capital class (one and the same) have turned our entire "economy" into a global housing money laundering/pyramid-scheme open to the highest bidder (closed to Canadians) whilst also selling off our land and resources to the highest bidder..(AKA Capitalism AKA shit.)
