When you don't believe in Climate change because you believe in stockpiling hard cold cash instead

That's a terrible strawman. I believe man-made climate change exists, but fixing it isn't without its own set of negatives.

For those that don't believe in it, it's not what if we fix it for nothing, it's what if we invest billions of dollars and leave millions unemployed for nothing. There's a huge difference there, and reducing your opposition's stance to something so indefensible is counterproductive and downright disrespectful.

Our climate models have been wrong time and time again. For those with a fairly low level understanding of science, it's easy to see how that (paired with the fact that some places are getting warmer while others are getting colder) becomes "we really don't know what the data shows".

As I said, I side with the overwhelming majority of scientists on this. But acting like the genuine concerns of the other side are meaningless doesn't get us anywhere.
