I don't remember where I heard it and to be honest I don't have the stomach to go looking for sources, but I feel like I've heard that not all people who sexually abuse children are actually attracted to kids? Like Ian Watkins, the Lostprophets singer who is in jail for some absolutely vile acts against very young children - I read an interview with his former bandmates where they said he was always pushing his limits to see what he could get away with as they became more successful and famous. They seemed to think his offences against children had come from that will to push further and find out how depraved he could get - I think they found it impossible to imagine that he'd had that desire all along and they'd lived with the guy on tour buses and stuff for years and never suspected it. Also the fact that a lot of paedophiles don't seem to have a preferred gender of victim suggests to me that power and control might play more of a role than attraction itself. I could be wrong though, I'm just musing.
