It was just like yesterday when I broke down in a fever from the engineered virus treatments. Amidst the rise in my core temperature, I reassured myself I had made the right choice by volunteering for the program. The virus delivered DNA designed to mutate my neurons to incorporate an optogenetic quantum interface to my brain. I was never really good at science so I didn't quite understand the larger system but the scientists explained that I'll be plugged into a supercomputer where everyone else was plugged in as well and the computer would compute future scenarios then reconfigure my psyche to allow for the highest probability of achieving some computed future. I asked many questions which were answered except when I enquired about how come everyone had the interface already.

For the next few months it was a gradual descent into madness. A necessary condition for getting my neuroplasticity to an acceptable level of what the called "flux". Apparently this enabled the computer to reconfigure my psyche as it narrows down on a target mind state. I got lots of weird dreams as well.

I managed to keep it together as much as possible as I started noticing several changes in my personality including a rapacious appetite for science fiction and a sudden lean into radical liberal values, a blossom in confidence and a spike and dip in paranoia but eventually it was all over.

I couldn't belive I was now officially a time traveler. Strange and somewhat bland. I had absolutely no memory of any future but seemed to get a very intense sense of premonition preceding any significant events.

I could barely celebrate the end of the program before I was hit with the bad news. The lead scientist told me I made a delta 5 mistake. Okaaaay? Consequently my new psyche was aggressively reconfigured and would need more power than my body can provide on its own without being plugged into the supercomputer. Okaaaay. As a result I'll need to be plugged into an alpha 5 individual. Emm. What does that mean? The alpha would provide enough power for you both! Hmm that doesn't sound so bad I thought. Then the shocker. Well, alphas tend to muscle delta minds into submission so you might experience some strangeness.

What an euphemism. It turns out I lost my free will in its totality. What utter BS. I didn't sign up for this.
