[WP] Upon waking up you only see utter darkness...

Nothing, there was nothing. I was suspicious, I thought I was being tricked, lulled into a false sense of security. So I hid.

And I hid. And I hid. And I hid, for what felt like hours, days, yet there was nothing.

All I could see was darkness. I could feel furniture, obviously I hadn’t been taken to somewhere else, but it was clear that the room was different somehow. I fumbled around, one hand on the wall and the other out in front of me looking for obstacles on the floor, for the light switch. It was still in the same place, and yet I was scared to flick it. But you don’t move forward with out risk, so I did. I was half expecting some sort of creature, or man with a knife to be standing in front of me ready to kill me, yet there was nothing.

I crawled, fearful, from the cubbyhole in my room. Everything was a mess; loose items all over the floor, furniture had fallen over, blocking my view of the window. One of the cupboard doors moved. I pulled the door, slowly looking in, yet there was nothing.

Almost tripping over getting to it, I placed my hand on the door. I winced as it groaned open. Anticipation overtook me, yet there was nothing.

Stepping out into the hallway I noticed something. The whole place was filled with a deafening silence. The hallway seemed endless, I thought something would come barrelling down it, yet there was nothing.

Looking down the hall, most rooms were either locked or had their doorways blocked or collapsed. I noticed one was open, a few doors down. The door was almost falling off its hinges, but it was openable. Pushing it open, it made a high pitch squeal that cut through the silence like a knife through air. I was covered in goose bumps. Scared for my life, I dived into the room. I cowered beneath the bed, yet there was nothing.

The room's window was covered, this time by curtains. sliding the curtains open, I expected to be greeted by something; a city, a field, anything. Yet there was nothing.

Turning away from the window, I was equal parts terrified and confused. An incredible pain hit me immediately after, my head exploded. For a second a white flash was all I could see. Was I dead? In a dream? I thought something was off, yet there was nothing.

I walked out of the room, hoping this would be over; yet there was nothing.

The corridor seemed more empty than ever as my footsteps echoed off the walls, making them sound twice as loud. The place seemed dead, devoid of life. I realised I had not seen or heard anything even remotely alive this whole time. Be it a plant, a rodent. I tried to look for one as I walked down this seemingly infinite hallway, yet there was nothing.

I had reached the end after what seemed a long time of not going anywhere, all the rooms looked the same; some blocked, some locked and some open. After some walking I reached the lift. To the left of the lift were some stairs. The door needed a little pushing to get open, but made little noise. The stairs were covered in darkness; there was barely enough light to show the next step, let alone an entire staircase. As I descended into the darkness, I made sure to look carefully at the next step. This saved my life; an enormous part of the staircase had collapsed, the drop being more than fatal. I tried to see if there was any way of continuing down the staircase, yet there was nothing.

It appeared the lifts were the only option. I knew they would make a huge amount of noise. I winced just thinking about it. The button was easy to identify and they seemed to come quickly, yet they were easily the loudest things I’d heard so far. One popped open on my floor with a loud ding, amplified by the silence. I was half expecting something to jump out at me, yet there was nothing.

The lift seemed normal, so I stepped into it. There were many buttons, but only one of them had a number. I looked at the hall one last time before I pressed one of the buttons. I waited for a minute for the doors to close. I pressed the button again hoping the doors would close, yet there was nothing.

I pressed the button with the number on. It looked strange, with the symbol א0 being the only thing to denote it’s floor. I pressed the button. Excruciating pain, blinding flash. I thought I would be somewhere different, some kind of change. Yet there was nothing.

The lift stopped, after what seemed like a lifetime. The doors opened. Outside them was a hallway, with a single flickering light. The rest of the hallway was dark, with no windows and no doors. I walked out into the hallway. The light from the lift disappeared, I had heard no doors. Turning around I assumed the lift’s doors had closed, yet there was nothing.

I turned and carried on down the corridor. Walking down it seemed longer than infinity. The hall was bland, with little in the way of detail. I tried to look for something, anything to distract me from this walk, yet there was nothing.

Days, it felt like days before I saw the light at the end of the hall. It took hours more to reach it. The light came from a large glass door that filled my vision. I opened it. I doubled over in pain, the flash hit me. I got up and froze. I saw it, in front of me. I wanted to scream, yet there was nothing.

Because, standing in the centre of the room, was a sight that words cannot describe. I guess, the best I can put it is that there was... something.
