I was wrong about anime (the music, at least)

I know how you feel! Music is pretty much my favourite aspect of anime, and a huge motivator to what I end up watching.

Here's a few anime where music is either really good or plays quite a big role, check out if you're interested:

Angel Beats! (there is a band in the show who frequently does insert songs, and they're all top notch)

Macross series (check the newer entries, Macross Frontier and Macross Delta, detailed watch order in the watch order wiki at the top of the sub)

Guilty Crown (not a really good show but has some of the best music, maybe just check the songs?)

Mekakucity Actors (once again, not really good show, great music)

Kids on the Slope (jazz music, blind rec)

Nodame Cantabile (classical music, more musically focused than YLiA)

And of course, Your Lie in April is something you should definitely check out.

I'm out right now, I'll link you to the shows and some samples of the music when I get home. Feel free to ask if you want more details on something!
