8/26/15 New Interview: Bernie and C-Span's Steven Scully

[editorial comments in bracket are solely my own] ~0:15 Host: 3 months ago we talked about your campaign, as it stands now, are you where you thought you would be? ~0:22 Bernie says: "No, we're far ahead of where I thought we would be." Turnout in conservative states like South Carolina is far beyond what he thought possible.
~1:33 Irene (D-TX) Thanks C-Span for covering Bernie. Caller has followed Bernie for years and ecstatic that he's running. "If you build it, they will come." Doesn't feel a lot of Bern in San Antonio (yet.) ~2:25 Bernie acknowledges a lot of momentum; discusses income disparity ~3:24 Bernie says never in his wildest imagination did he believe he would have thousands at his rallies with great enthusiasm; admits it makes him nervous because he can't do it all by himself ~4:37 Dee (R-Ill) Says she's a cancer patient w/Obamacare and complains about her medical care [can't tell if she's a troll]; took over 1 month to get chemo [Thanks, Obama!]. What would you do if you were elected? ~5:35 Bernie responds complaining about the lack of universal, single-payer, health care as a "right." He wants Medicare for all (with improvements). ~6:32 Debra (Doesn't Know Affiliation-MN) Caller advocates 10% flat tax [because, you know, God (who hasn't given her any math skills apparently] ~7:21 Bernie responds, in short, gross income disparity which must go back to the middle class...we are not a poor country; so few have so much and so many have so little. We have a lot of work to do and we're a rich country. ~8:52 Twitter Question re: Private School Loans no luck re-financing ~9:31 Bernie says his legislation would allow for re-financing; expresses outrage at the gov't profiting from these loans ~10:17 Chuck (D-WA) (Eisenhower generation) called to say how much he is inspired by Bernie and that his wife and daughter are big fans after watching him on air today in S.C. ~10:54 Bernie thanks Chuck and waxes about Eisenhower's moderate Republicanism and how the GOP has moved very, very far to the right; bad influence of money; and a government that represents the middle class as well. ~12:23 Doug (R-CO) his concern is that the GOP brand has been destroyed since Nixon; voted for Obama and feels burned with empty promises; he is looking for someone who can speak beyond platitudes; says he's very interested in Bernie's words but, overall, depressed with both parties and money agenda ~14:11 Bernie responds that last election 63% of eligible voters aren't voting, especially the young. He understands the apathy. Bernie says he cannot do it alone; grassroots political revolution is the only way to take on Wall Street and Establishment politics/corps. ~16:31 Host asks about Bernie's reaction if Biden enters the race ~16:36 Bernie says he doesn't know. He likes and respects Biden. He assures he would not engage in negative campaign and wants to debate the real issues. He says the hosts' guess is as good as his. ~17:11 Host asks how Bernie is holding up ~17:13 Bernie says he's doing great, will do a few more events, then take a few days off ~17:22 Host asks Bernie about Liberty University Speech -- why there? ~17:24 Bernie says it's easy to talk to sympathetic audiences, but it's different to talk to a conservative university with different views. However, he thinks American politicians needs to talk to people who disagree with him too. Bernie says he will ask about the morality of income disparity, childhood poverty, elder abuse, etc.
