Aboriginal Tent Embassy takes over Canberra's Lobby restaurant

They didn't say that. And they obviously aren't solely interested in the money, nor do they actually think they'll get it. Read between the lines, and don't just jump to racist conclusions when you don't understand something.

The point of the protest, I imagine, is to open up dialogue about the treatment of indigenous people in Australia, and to highlight the fact that the vast natural wealth of this country was literally taken from them along with almost the entirety of their culture. For example, food you know that Kevin Buzzacott, the man in the style, was forcibly removed from his land when he was a child, by the police that is, so that companies could mine uranium there? Are you OK with that?

It's not about a cafe (that's shut down anyway), it's about the commodification of the land once used for traditional purposes, and the exploitation that had happened and is continuing to happen.

I see you made light of the idea of "sacred sites", but honestly, that just reveals your ignorance (no offence). The fact is, indigenous culture is heavily connected to the land itself. The land is literally the basis of their spiritual culture, which if course forms their cultural identity. So when you here "that place is a sacred site" they literally mean "that place is necessary for my culture to exist.

Something you may not know: that whole area was (or is?) a sacred site. The area around parliament house running up to Mnt Ainslie used to be female 'coming of age' ground and birthing area, with the area around black Mountain running down to the museum (now under the lake) and going along Oconner Ridge being male initiation grounds. These are "sacred" because they are culturally important, that is, people went there for important business to do with their spiritual culture. The indigenous people of this region usually spent their normal residential time further south, in Red hill , Mugga lane, Woden , Monaro hwy, Tuggeranong areas. Then they'd come north for their important ceremonies.

Please don't dismiss something you know nothing about. Obviously there is more to this than simply "hurr durr , look at those jokers. I don't understand what they are doing; they must only want the money!"
