After being in the workforce and recently rejoining college, academia feels like a joke.

My husband (38) recently went back to finish his masters (MPA)… neither of us have been in college since the early 2000s. This shit is so stupid. Most of his classes are online, meaning the professors don’t do anything and he ends up watching YouTube videos to figure out the assignments. We’re paying over $7k a semester for him to watch YouTube. He bought a book last semester for over $400, and all he got was a ream of paper wrapped in plastic. He’s expected to hole punch it and put it in a binder. WTF? The first day of class, the professor tells them the book isn’t necessary and he won’t be using it. My husband takes this unwrapped paper back to the bookstore less than two weeks after he purchased it, and they offered him $2.50 for it. He pays 40 bucks a semester to use the fucking parking lot for the one in-person class he attends twice a week.

Just like you pointed out, every class is a game to figure out what the professor wants to see/hear. It’s so obvious this shit is a racket. He said when he’s done he won’t have a single clue what he’s doing. All this was just to get the piece of paper, no real value or experience is being gained here. Just one gigantic shake down.
