I am Jerry Stritzke, CEO of REI and we’re closing all of our stores on Black Friday. Ask me anything!

Hi Unhappy Customer! My team and I decided to ignore this really important and relevant question earlier hoping it would get lost in the shuffle. Unfortunately for me, it hasn't so I jumped back on here real quick to give you a half-assed answer. First of all, this is my first AMA and I only intended on answering questions that painted myself and REI in a positive light. I honestly wasn't expecting Reddit to be full of intelligent consumers, rather just young kids who know nothing of how a company should be ran. It’s late here in "I'm smarter than you" Land so I appreciate your understanding.

I don't care to read about your experience. Our members are who create a higher yield for us, therefore I don't care about your experience. We have an old school mentality where nothing matters except profit, profit, profit. BUT your experience really caught on and seems to be the norm here. We don't want our dirty little secret to get out so I'm just going to say that 'doesn't sound usual so I want to look into this more.' I'll forget to come back on in the morning and provide a more in-depth answer about our membership sales, but am writing you now so you don't think I was ignoring you. But as expressed earlier, Reddit is full of young, immature consumers with no life experience to speak of."

This guy is an ass and this was a legitimate questions. What these companies (and celebrities) who come on Reddit do not realize is that we are no longer a minority. The Baby Boomers are slowly being replaced by us and those employees who are treated poorly are US. We are being treated poorly by our employers and yet, we are supposed to frequent establishments who treat their employees like trash. Makes no sense to me.
