Anyone here has an autistic parent?

i am not trying to invalidate your experience. what you went through is horrible and shouldn't happen to anyone. but i don't think you can blame autism. I'm autistic, my dad's too, my mom might also be. and my dad is a great parent. he does talk to me, he always supports me. i am not saying this to brag. i want to say that autism doesn't stop a person from being a good parent. but an autistic person is so much more likely to get traumatized and that often results in not being able to care for a child, neglecting them. so it might be that your parent is like that not because of the autism itself, but because he had a difficult time too. it doesn't exuse him at all, don't get me wrong. you needed someone to care for you as a child and he was an adult responsible for you. I'm saying that it's probably not the autism, it's the trauma.
