AP Literature and Adult Content

AP Lit teacher here. Beloved is one of my favorite books to teach, because it opens up my predominantly white students' minds to a perspective from a more modern black woman. It's so rewarding and, structurally, quite cool and interesting. I'm always afraid people will throw a crap fit and make me get rid of it, which would suck, because most of our other '12th grade' books are 50+ years old and by white guys.

Anyway, enough about me, just wanted to rant a little there.

Making EVERYTHING about sex and rape is totally fucked, and only reading Hamlet and Beloved for the entire year is asinine. This teacher sounds like a nutcase who is trying way to hard to apply one page of his Literary Theory 101 textbook to everything. He should seriously be reported, though I understand why she doesn't want to do that. Is there any way you/your mom could coordinate with other parents and make it a group effort? This shit is wholly inappropriate.
