Beginner Questions

I honestly have less of an understanding of what front end web devs do now than I do of what back end devs do - which is really bizarre considering how front end is supposed to handle the most visible user facing stuff. I’m in intro courses in university for front end and back end dev, and in the back end course we’re using postman and writing real code while in the front end we’re just kind of… adding little tags and fancy fonts and colors to text content we’ve written. If web devs in the real world probably are not being paid to write the content that goes on websites, and if UI/UX is a discipline intended to handle the visual and design aspects of a site, what do front end devs actually genuinely do?
