Meaning: For people who received surgery within the last 27 years, there was no significant difference in their death rates - including suicide - compared to their cisgendered counterparts.
In line with the increased mortality from suicide, sex-reassigned individuals were also at a higher risk for suicide attempts, though this was not statistically significant for the time period 1989–2003. The risks of being hospitalised for substance misuse or accidents were not significantly increased after adjusting for covariates.
Meaning: For people who received surgery within the last 27 years, there was no significant difference in either their rates of suicide attempts or hospitalization compared to their cisgendered counterparts.
