Cleaning is less valuable the longer you take to do it.

Not necessarily true because it takes more effort to clear more dirt.

I have cats and they poo and pee inside. I can chose to clean their litter boxes twice a day, or once every two days for example. If I do it twice a day it takes me 3 minutes, a small bag, and I prevent any and all smells from offending my nose. If I do it once every two days it takes me at least 12 minutes, certainly no less. And I have to deal with the consequence of the stink.
So the first way means 12 minutes of work total over two days.
The second way means 12 minutes of work total over two days, plus a nasty smell.

The same goes for anything that is visually unappealing, but nasty smells are more universal than that. Some people seem to be perfectly happy to look at dirty bowls in a sink, crumbs all over a counter or grime all over their shower, which is why I use the smell example.
