CMV: The people who support anti trans bathroom bills just want trans people to not exist.

Let's take the easier case of change rooms. Picture this. You are a woman in a change room, maybe at the local pool. You take off your clothes, maybe shower, and somebody walks in who appears like a male on the outside, takes of their clothes, has a penis, and starts showering beside you.

You think a trans person would do this (if pre or non-op, let alone still otherwise looked like a dude). I think this can be shot down instantly as "not trans".

Is it a transsexual who identifies as female, or is it a pervert who wants to see women naked or expose themselves. These people do exist, after all.

You're saying trans women just look like ordinary dudes. This is absolutely false.

What is fair for you to do here? Can you ask them if they are trans? Is that allowed or fair, or is that bigotry?

I'm trans and I'd tell them to get the fuck out. Well, I wouldn't because even though I pass I have a penis so I'd never use a change room or a shower at a gym. But you get the idea.

It's not bigotry to ask if someone is trans by the way.

Can you ask them to leave? Can you have them thrown out?

Well it would also depend on the policy of the gym but I don't see why not.

But allowing transsexuals in means there is no easy way to tell people apart.

Um, yes there is. Trans women do not look like men. Some unlucky ones or early in transition ones might have some obvious male tell tale signs, but you act like trans women look like regular cis men.

Men were never really worried about people appearing as women walking into their change rooms. I'm sure many would like that.

So just so we're clear, you'd be perfectly happy seeing Bailey Jay in your changing room?

Note that nothing in this argument has anything to do with actual transsexuals. The whole thing stays the same even if no transsexual ever enters any of these bathrooms or change rooms. It's not about them; its about the other people in the room, mostly women feeling fearful or victimized by people that appear to be males, and not having any reliable means to know if they are transsexual or a run of the mill perverted male.

Ultimately what you're saying here is we have to pass this law. It hurts "actual trans people" but they're a small portion of the population, so we have no choice. It's hurt 1,000 people or hurt 1,000,000, let's hurt the 1,000. NO CHOICE.

How about this - you write the laws better so that it doesn't affect trans people but it affects people pretending to be trans?

Just go by what the person's driver's license says (easier to change than a birth certificate and actually gets carried around) or alternatively, a note from a doctor that confirms they are trans?
