Coal miner denied workplace accident pay because of casual status

I would assume that the contract you signed as a stagehand differs from that of a casual employ coal mine worker - but beyond that, the $411 per week figure is whatever he is being paid without his employer providing additional coverage due to an accident wherein the employer is at fault.

The article is about how casual coal miners apparently do not have the same workplace health and safety cover as their permanently employed peers. I would also assume based on your anecdote that you were covered in this way.

The article doesn't actually discuss any potential cover Turner might have received in terms of emergency medical services or even ongoing medical treatment. Turner may also have received a payout similar to yours - that isn't covered either. I'm not sure specifically where the $411/week payment comes from (e.g. if it includes government benefits or if it is entirely paid by the employer at fault) but I would feel safe assuming the stipulations of your individual cover differ, as they would between most employers.
