Consulting is a totally different career to what I imagined. Help?

They have both strategy and SAP but they appear to be completely separate business areas, or maybe I haven’t seen the link yet. The only person I know in strategy is doing some kind of specialist role within mathematical modelling, so I’m not really sure what the rest of the business area looks like. I was hoping for something that was more related to what the ‘typical’ idea of what a consultant does. Sounds sort of naive now that I see how varied and complex it is but this seems like a totally different role compared to what I was imagining - even at the higher levels.

The projects I will be assigned will all be related to SAP. My manager made that clear which was disappointing. I wouldn’t mind if I was on a really boring or difficult project, just as long as I could see the career was going towards where I imagined.
