We don't have a visible leader or a prime minister who regularly addresses the nation - coupled with a loss of faith/approval in the governments handling entirely, people are turning elsewhere to get their information and starting to believe in all types of other theories.

The government could have easily prevented this by being more honest and open. I'm sure this must have come up in the 'secret' pandemic simulation exercise they ran in 2016 called exercise cygnus. The results were not released public as they were too 'frightening' apparently.

Event 201 in October 2019 covered this sort of stuff too, in regards to how 'misinformation' will start to be taken seriously if the public loses trust in the government.
