How do you get your foot in the door?

I've decided to give up on OLD after years of no matches regardless how many bios and new photos I've tried.

The past year I've been trying to meet people in person (even moved to a capital city) yet I'm still not having any luck. I can't seem to get past the smile and hello, literally every girl looks down, says "hi, fine thanks" and then just power walks away.

There's a lot of advice in this sub regarding beyond this point, but what do you do to actually get past the initial greeting?

I don't think I'm that disgustingly horrendous to look at, I dress well, am in great shape, groom and always make sure to smell nice, come off friendly etc but I just can't seem to make anything happen.

Should I just give up and focus my life on other pursuits?
