Dear Reddit, what is the most WTF thing a friend or relative has done?

I got a call from my uncle while I was a freshman in college. The call reminds me of the scene in "The Town" where Ben Affleck tells his buddy that they're going to go do something, not to tell anyone, except my uncle's call omitted the "We're gonna hurt some people" line.

So I get in my car and drive 45 mins away to the address he told me. When I get there I find out it's my cousin's house (we're not close). I walked inside and there was this god awful stench. Like rotten food mixed with piss. Trash covered the floor a foot deep. Much worse than that scene in friends when Ross dates the girl with the dirty apartment. Most of the trash was food wrappers/containers, pizza boxes, etc. The rest was magazines, newspapers, and infomercial products.

We went and bought a snow shovel in the middle of summer to shovel up all the crap. Something like 20 bags of trash.

My cousin had dropped out of high school at 17 after getting pregnant. She married the guy, and this all happened 4 or 5 years later. Apparently the guy was a winner and had fits of rage where he would destroy stuff, which led to my uncle coming over and finding out she was also a hoarder.

None of that is the WTF part, though. I understand that's likely just a mental condition that caused that.

My uncle bought my cousin a townhouse where she and her 2 kids could stay. She stayed there, didn't work, and was completely subsidized by my aunt and uncle.

2 years later my cousin met a fire fighter from a nearby town on a dating site, and a couple months later moved in with him, leaving the townhouse.

My sister and I rented the townhouse from them on and off for a couple years. After we both bought houses, my aunt and uncle decided they're probably going to sell the property.

One day my uncle gets a letter from the community manager that the current renters of his townhouse are being loud at all hours, there's a terrible smell emanating from the apartment, bugs crawling into the adjacent buildings, etc. And that if he doesn't do something about it legal action was to follow.

That was weird to him because he wasn't renting it to anyone.

Well it turns out that my cousin had made copies of her key and held on to them for those years. While she was in jail for getting caught stealing 1000s from the home of a party she attended, she met a person in need of housing that couldn't pass a background check. She pretended that she was the owner of the property and had been collecting rent from these people for 7 months.

Because of renter's rights, my uncle had to hire a lawyer to evict these tenants.

Out of the dozens of WTF things my cousin has done, that's #1.
