Firedorn himself (writer of the controversial poem inside Pillars of Eternity) chose to change it himself, and Obsidian did not want to. "I chose to turn into something that made fun of the b***h-b******s that were complaining. They went above and beyond what I would have expected them to do."

Have you ever been drunk and did something stupid, blacked-out and don't remember a thing?

I can't say I've been black-out drunk, no, but I'm familiar with how the whole thing works. But again you're trying to give what you think the assumed context of this particular poem is.

(You do allow people to have right not to sleep with trans-sexual person?).

Of course I do. Honestly that's the default position here. Asking it that way feels like an implication that I wouldn't.

Lack of experience might explain why you focus so much on part people find irrelevant here.

To the contrary, my experiences are why I find it to be relevant.

As much as I understand your point of view, it's still just your interpretation, not as you assume as only logical one due to social context. Mine as you can see is completely different. Is my interpretation not valid too?

It's not that it is invalid, so much as it is colored by your clear lack of experience with trans people and/or the social issues surrounding the condition. I do not blame you for that, but when someone who is familiar with said issues speaks up about them, it may be time to listen.

Trans people are minority so most of the people doesn't look or think at life as such. Not because they aren't sensitive or ignorant but simply because it's normal to focus on majority experience. Knowledge is limited, as the time and resources to pursue it are. You of course have right to explain and spread awareness(but also assuming good faith), but somehow I don't think that was the case here(limerick outrage in general not yours).

I can't respond to the actions of every single person who's talked about this, so quoting the general outrage isn't useful here. I can only state and respond regarding my own opinions and statements. If I had to answer for the "outrage in general" we'd be here for days. I'm just trying to provide a level-headed counterpoint, although it seems like most people here aren't terribly intersted in that.

And frankly in general due to sheer amount of cultures or even individual feelings you can't make a joke(especially pointed at someone) that is impossible to be interpreted as offensive for someone.

I need to focus on the term "offensive" here for just a moment. Again, please note, I'm only talking for myself here. But offense is not what I'm worried about. I'm not concerned about being offended personally. That's something which will happen, and I will also likely offend someone else today. It's too mercurial and too personal a notion to really be useful in public discourse. No, what I'm concerned about is a culture which promotes systematic denigration and even violence against trans people. Now, you may say, "But TheMatryoshka, the person in the poem killed themselves!". And you'd be right. But it's still reinforcing the notion that sleeping with a trans woman is "the worst thing evar" and might drive someone who grossly overreacts to suicide. It's still part of the idea that this is some incredibly horrible thing. And it is that mindset which helps to justify in many people's heads the ridiculous likelihood that a trans person will be a victim of violent crime in their lifetime. Trans women are far more likely to be beaten or murdered than the average citizen, and trans women of color several times more likely than that.

I am not for one second saying that this is caused by jokes. However, when you've got an entire culture that normalizes the idea that trans women are horrible, disgusting, and worthy only of disdain, this all helps reinforce the thinking that creates this environment. Faced with that, sometimes we have to dig out teaspoons if that's all we have.

That's why author intention is actually important here and why people are scratching their heads about all the fuss.

It'd be important if he'd just gone "Oh, I didn't realize that. I'm sorry about that." The passive-aggressive second version kind of kicked his intent back into irrelevance.

If people had such wall of text about each joke as we have here and required all the knowledge to be clever enough to deliver(and understand!) it properly there would be no jokes in human culture.

Again...if he just messed up, that's fine. But a lot about his responses suggests either he was pretty aware of what he was doing, or else he just doesn't care.

People make mistakes all the time, yes. And that's fine. But it's how we respond to new information that is the real test of our character.
